Recycle all of those tee shirts that you don't wear anymore! Make a comfy, cute scarf, its easy!
STEP ONE: Grab a tee shirt and lay out flat.
STEP TWO: Starting at the bottom, cut one inch wide rings. (You can use the hem if you want) You should get around 16 rings.STEP FIVE: Cut this two inch long strips from the remaining shirt. Stretch the strip out and tie two of the rings together. Tie together the rest of the rings creating a chain. You can leave it like that for a scarf or tie the chain together forming a circle scarf. (as pictured at top) Snip off the excess ties and you're done!

In love this concept and want to try it, but I'm a little unclear about step 5. Can you break it down a little more? I don't understand how long the two inch strip should be and how to tie the loops together... Any clarification would be much appreciated and I'll get started on this project right away! Thx!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! So cute!
ReplyDeleteFor step five you'll want to cut out strips two inch long and about 1/4 inch wide. (amount of strips depends on how many rings you have) Place two of your rings side by side and using your two inch long strip tie the two rings together. The step five picture will show what the rings tied together should look like. Continue the same technique with the remaining rings. Have fun and let me know if you need anymore help!

This is awesome! I did have problems with the tshirt material fraying though. I had little tiny pieces of material all over my shirt (and everywhere else!) Do you have any suggestions on the type of tshirt to use? I bought new ones from the craft store that were 100% cotton and I didn't wash them before. I really want to make some for my family for christmas gifts but the fraying material is quite bothersome. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDid you use t-shirts made from knit fabric? Knit fabric shouldn't fray.
DeleteI pinned this from Pinterest and since I don't have anything going on today, I am heading to make it right now. I plan on wearing it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I made it in 10 minutes!
ReplyDeleteI made one too. Thanks for the inspiration.

I just wanted to let you know that I did this project today with my daughter's elementary school combination class (1st/2nd/3rd grade mix), and it was a huge hit. Of the 5 craft ideas kids could choose from for our pre-Earth Day activities, this one was by far the most popular and the easiest. The kids could not get enough of it. We finished the scarves in under 15 minutes, and the girls each wanted to make another. They kept talking about different projects they could make with other cut-up t-shirts at home. Thank you for the tutorial!
ReplyDeletei love this concept .this is very useful when u are frustrated from your old dresses so then use these tricks and creat a new design of a dress .this is really very creative and i wanna also use this with my daughter's dresses.my daughter is 5 years old i love when she wear these type of funky dresses.
